Two hundred white dowels at 0.47 inch — a bulk quantity for anyone building tiered cakes weekly. The wider diameter carries more weight per rod, so fewer are needed per tier than with the thinner 0.4 inch type. A wider rod is also less likely to be pushed in at an angle, since it meets more resistance from the sponge and self-corrects as it goes down. For regular work the bulk price per rod is the main argument.

Care & Use
Store the box closed and dry so the rods stay clean between events. Cut to a single measured length per tier. Wash used rods promptly; buttercream sets in the hollow centre and is awkward to clear later.
